Ernest Albert Knighten

September 22, 1930 - March 25, 2015 Ernest Albert Knighten age 84 of Concord, Al. passed away on Wednesday March 25, 2015. Mr. Knighten worked at U.S. Steel until his retirement and also worked as a mechanic for most of his life. In 2009 he was inducted into the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers Hall of Fame. Mr. Knighten not only was involved in auto racing but he enjoyed skin diving and he had his pilot's license. He lived a full and adventurous life racing cars and flying his airplane. He also enjoyed traveling to watch his grandson play baseball, Alabama Football games and watching the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed sports and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a member of Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Preceded in death by his parents Joe and Josephine Knighten three brothers Bill, Ted and Bobby. Survived by his wife Bonnie Knighten, daughter Robbie Knighten Henson Grayson, Ga., grandson Clay Henson (Heather) 2 great grandsons Brodie and Bradley Henson Venice, Fl. and sister Margaret Vandiver Jasper, Al. A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 28, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home with visitation from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. burial will be at Highland Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ed Cruce and Harry Sims will be officiating.
